Pramono Tours Three Nations to Bolster Strategic Partnerships

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is embarking on a series of working visits to three countries—China (Shenzhen), South Korea (Seoul), and Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto)—from April 22 to 28, 2026. This overseas mission is aimed at bolstering urban diplomacy, widening international partnership networks, and fast-tracking Jakarta’s transformation into a Top 50 Global City by 2030.

Jakarta is poised to evolve into a world-class city

Pramono stated that Jakarta serves as a "living laboratory" for urban transformation in Southeast Asia. According to him, the challenges of climate change, flooding, traffic congestion, and air pollution are not hurdles to be feared, but rather catalysts for innovation.

"Through cross-city collaboration and the support of international partners, Jakarta is poised to evolve into a world-class city that is both livable and sustainable for all its residents," he expressed in a Jakarta government's press release on Thursday (4/23).

During his visit, he is carrying out a series of strategic itineraries. These include bilateral talks with the Executive Mayor of Shenzhen and the Shenzhen Municipal Government, as well as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MRT Jakarta and Shenzhen Metro.

He is also slated to attend the JIEP Business Matching Forum 2026 and a roundtable discussion with the Shenzhen Qianhai AI Industry Association. Additionally, he will visit the Qianhai Exhibition Hall and meet with the leadership of the Qianhai Administration Bureau. This series of visits also serves as a platform to pitch cooperation and investment opportunities in Jakarta.

In Seoul, he will oversee the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jakarta and Jeju, alongside visits to the Seoul Boramae Medical Center and the Healing Breeze Clinic. These visits to the two medical facilities are part of an exploratory mission and benchmarking exercise to enhance healthcare services in Jakarta, specifically for the development of Sumber Waras Hospital (RS Sumber Waras).

Meanwhile in Japan, Pramono will hold bilateral talks with the Governor of Tokyo. This meeting is intended to cement city-to-city ties, including the follow-up on green innovation projects, youth diplomacy, and synergizing efforts to tackle urban challenges in Asia.

Additionally, he is set to address the G-NETS Leaders Summit 2026, a prestigious high-level gathering of global city leaders focused on sustainability, climate resilience, and the future of urban centers.

The Governor’s itinerary also includes delivering a keynote lecture at Kyoto University and holding a meeting with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Through this diplomatic mission, the Jakarta government reaffirms its steadfast commitment to bolstering urban diplomacy, broadening international partnership networks, and actualizing Jakarta’s vision as an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable global city.
